A sad reflection (Donnie Morrison)
I read with interest Laughton Johnson’s paean of praise for Viking Energy’s windfarm written on behalf of the windfarm supporters group.
As Johnson resides at Sandness far removed from the windfarm, I and many other of the oft ridiculed “nimbys”, would welcome his opinion on the health issues relating to windfarms given Dr Taylor’s damning report.
It’s a sad reflection that Johnson appears to suggest that wealth for the community should come before health for the community.
Is this his personal opinion or that held by the entire windfarm supporters group?

Donnie and Linda, it does not surprise me (and I hope this time my comments will remain within this subject and not deleted as they were the last time) that the short term thinking of a said few care not about the destruction of health, environment or eco-systems as long as they make their money at any cost………even if it means the cost of somebody’s physical or mental or both health so be it as long as those responsible (although they will not admit too it) make their money, who should care?
It is not by any means ‘ going green ‘, being ‘ environmentally friendly ‘ or ‘ looking after Shetlands economic needs for the future ‘ that is driving this farce and money draining scheme…….although it is at a pause at the moment (lets hope for the sake of Shetland a permanent pause) it is the, like many money making driven schemes, short term thinking of the said few who are only looking at it from the perspective of themselves and not for the greater good of the community or Shetland.
The sooner the Charitable Trusts breaks ties with this massively expensive scheme (we are talking billions NOT millions) the better for the community, the people and most of all, the environment and eco-systems of Shetland, the better.

This entire project, Viking Energy, was driven by greed from its inception. Do not expect any changes of opinions from most of its backers and supporters. Fortunately their sheer incompetence and the uncaring, utterly selfish attitude will be its downfall… If they had taken the slightest heed to the environmental damage, the welfare of those living within this wind farm and the contemptible political driving force behind Green Scotland, no court actions would have been necessary or undertaken.

Its not just that they want to become rich at the expense of fellow islanders, they also want to become rich at the expense of the countryside (wildlife and tourism etc), when we already have enough.

Why don’t all those windfarm nimbys shut up and start counting their blessings? Granted, given VE’s dubious background noise measuring methods, future complaints have scant chance of being successful. The turbines won’t be switched off, but hey, if the noise gets too much and the shadow flicker becomes unbearable for those leaving near them, they can take to the hills, where VE has promised them cycling paths! What more can they ask for?
Laughton Johnston claims our community has no future unless this windfarm goes ahead. He is wrong. There is no future for a community that allows such crass erosion of moral values, turns a blind eye to the plight of those earmarked to live in an industrial windfarm or worse, colludes with VE against them.

I wrote to your about the discrace of offshore workers. Drunk in Lerwick and sleeping with the locals. While laffing drunkinly about there wife’s finding out . Obviously splitting up family’s and divoces . A didn’t even no that they were allowed to drink never mind live with these locals , with Bose’s thinking they’re safe in accommodation provided !
