Whalsay doctor dies suddenly in Edinburgh

Whalsay doctor Wilf Treasure died suddently at the weekend while in Edinburgh.

The practice is being covered with a locum GP and Shetland NHS Board said “ongoing contingency arrangements” would be put in place as soon as possible.

Board chief executive Ralph Roberts said Dr Treasure was held in great respect by health board staff and he would be sadly missed, both by his colleagues and the local community in Whalsay.

Mr Roberts said: “Our thoughts are obviously with Dr Treasure’s wife and family at this difficult time. I am also very aware of the impact this will have on Dr Treasure’s immediate colleagues on Whalsay and in primary care and we will look to support them through this difficult time.”
