Church broken into and robbed in Yell

Police are looking for information about a break in and theft at Hamnavoe Church at Burravoe – the second reported incident in Yell at the same time.

According to a police statement the church break in happened sometime between 2pm on Wednesday afternoon and 10am on Thursday morning. A break in was also reported at Victor Jamieson Ltd plant hire in Mid Yell around the same time.

In the church theft, the culprits stole the cash collection box and money. Items from this theft were later recovered on the single track West Sandwick loop road.

Police are keen to speak to anyone with knowledge of the incident, or saw any persons or vehicles acting suspiciously in the areas described.

According to a police spokeswoman, both crimes are particularly selfish acts as it is the hardworking local community which is being targeted.

Anyone with information is asked to contact their local officer or telephone Police Scotland on 101.
