Community councils stave off dissolution threat

All Shetland community councils have now received sufficient nominations to stave off the threat of dissolution that was hanging over several of them this weekend.

Fetlar, Sandwick and Unst all received just enough nominations to fill the available seats while Walls and Sandness will be contested in January’s forthcoming by-election as 11 nominations have been received for 10 seats.

There are a total of 162 seats in 18 wards with a total of 35 seats having become vacant throughout the councils prior to today’s nomination deadline.
