Faroese skipper in court

The skipper of a Faroese pelagic trawler has been released on bail after appearing at Lerwick Sheriff Court charged with two offences under EU fishing regulations.

Pall Klein Rasmussen, 56, of Sellheyggagota in Faroe’s Klaksvik area is accused of a charge relating to the chemical processing of fish onboard the 84 metre-long stern trawler Christian I Grotinum.

A second charge alleges Rasmussen retained fish that had not been frozen immediately after grading.

The case was continued without plea until 9th December.

Bail was granted on condition Rasmussen lodge a sum in caution, or security, of £20,000.

It comes after a trawler was detained in Dales Voe on Sunday after being escorted by the fishery protection vessel Hirta to allow Marine Scotland to carry out investigations.
