Rain leaks at GBH

NHS Gilbert Bain Hospital Ambulance
The Gilbert Bain Hospital A&E entrance was affected by leaks.

Hospital staff wielded buckets and mops yesterday (Friday) at the Gilbert Bain as heavy rain led to leaks in the main hospital corridor, in the out patient reception area and at the accident and emergency entrance.

According to Shetland NHS Board Corporate Services Manager Carolyn Hand all patient services, including A&E, were running as usual and contingency plans were in place if the water damage become more extensive.

She said the “water ingress”  was due to the recent severe weather and heavy rain.

The NHS Shetland estates team are working on identifying where the water is entering the building and taking remedial repairs over the weekend.
