Man threatened police while on bail

A regular offender has been remanded after he admitted threatening police while on bail.

Trevor Couper, 22, of Cairnfield Road in Lerwick appeared from custody before honorary sheriff Arnold Duncan on Monday.

He pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening manner and shouting and swearing at police on Friday.
Defence agent Tommy Allan urged the sheriff to allow Couper his liberty until his a scheduled court appearance next week.

Bail, however, was refused. Couper will appear in court again on 29th April.

In a separate case, Ricardo Kortram, 49, of North Road in the town had his case continued without plea after he appeared from the cells accused of placing his estranged wife in fear or alarm.

Kortram is charged with repeatedly phoning and texting the woman at her address in Hamnavoe, Burra, on Saturday.

He was released on bail, but must abide by special conditions that he stays away from witnesses and does not enter Hamnavoe.

Kortram has also been told he must agree to attend an identification parade.
