Motorist killed in Cunningsburgh crash

A motorist has been killed in what police described as a “serious road traffic collision” in Cunningsburgh.

Two cars and a caravan were in collision shortly before 3.30pm on the A970. The road has been closed and police are advising motorists to expect delays. A diversion is in place via Aithsetter.

Fire crews from Sandwick, Scalloway and Lerwick were called to the scene by the ambulance service at 3.28pm. They made the scene safe, disconnecting batteries and removing the gas cylinder from the caravan.

The fire service confirmed that one person had died.
