Lerwick resident facing assault charges to stay in custody

A 22-year-old appeared from custody and was remanded back there after appearing at Lerwick Sheriff Court this afternoon charged with a violent assault on his partner.

Trevor Couper, of Lerwick’s Cairnfield Road, was charged with swearing, shouting and making threats at a house in Sandveien on Wednesday.

He was also charged with assaulting his partner yesterday at the same Sandveien address by pushing her onto the sofa, repeatedly punching her on the body, pushing her to the floor, grabbing her by the throat, compressing it, and gouging at her eyes, all to her injury.

He pleaded not guilty and a trial date was set for 6th August.
