Talk is cheap (Andy Holt)

Jonathan Wills claims that the Westminster government has been shamed by the people of Shetland in their reaction to the immigration “crisis.” How?

The current score sheet, reads Shetland – nil, government – 20,000 over four years. Not much I grant you but a start.

One thing I expect a government of any hue to do is guard our borders and keep a check on who’s coming in. This administration is very sensibly going to the refugee camps where the stories of actual Syrian refugees fleeing the war can be checked out and asylum offered. We saw the result of hasty, emotion driven reaction when “Madam Merkel” made her “come one, come all” offer and then hastily had to withdraw it as the European project began to come apart at the seams.

This problem has the potential to be too huge for decisions to be made based on emotions and a manipulative press hungry for “news”.
