Illness leaves SNP candidate Skene in hospital

SNP candidate Danus Skene has been taken into hospital in Aberdeen, just three months short of the Scottish parliamentary elections.

Mr Skene is said to be making “steady progress” following surgery and his family and friends are hopeful of a full recovery.

The local branch of the SNP says Mr Skene, who became ill shortly after returning from a trip to Kenya, will remain as the party’s candidate in the Holyrood elections.

Convener of SNP Shetland, Robbie McGregor, said everyone within the party wished him a speedy recovery.

“As far as I’m concerned, Danus is still the candidate and we look forward to him winning the seat for the SNP.

In a prepared statement, Mr McGregor said: “Danus is currently in hospital in Aberdeen following successful surgery. He is making steady progress and his family are hopeful of a complete recovery.

“Danus has recently returned from a trip to Kenya and became ill shortly after he arrived back in this country.”

I would like to pass on my thoughts and a speedy recovery to Danus, hoping he can resume his political career and aspirations thereof as soon as possible thereafter.

It is so gratifying to read the kind words expressed above and I’m sure that Danus and his family will be pleased, as are the Members of SNP, Shetland Branch. I know that we all enjoy robust debate but it is nice to see that common decency and humanity is alive and well in Shetland. Thank you all and to Danus, “Haste Ye Back – fit and fully restored”.
