Gas plant worker appears in court over bogus bomb threat

A man has been charged with alerting emergency services and claiming bombs had been planted on two accommodation vessels berthed in Lerwick.

Gary Docherty, 43, allegedly called coastguards repeatedly to say two incendiary devices were set to explode on the barges, used to house gas plant workers and Sodexo company staff.

Prosecutors at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court state Docherty was formerly employed by Sodexo.

Docherty, of Saltcoats, Ayrshire, denies threatening or abusive behaviour at his home in the town on 17th March 2015.

He also denies texting a man the day before the alleged offence and threatening to rape him and his children.

Docherty’s case was continued for trial in July.
