Latest orca drama captured in Quendale Bay

Kevin Jones was on hand to capture the dramatic moment a seal had a narrow escape from a hungry orca in Quendale Bay on Tuesday night.

Kevin’s series of photo’s show the apparently oblivious grey seal diving just as the orca changes direction to go on the attack. The whale charges and heels over to the side, perhaps to get a better bite.

But this time the seal appears to evade the killer’s attack and the whale turns away to continue its patrol of the area.

The whale was part of a pod including males, females and youngsters that were swimming round the bay on Tuesday evening.

The scene was witnessed by a crowd of onlookers, including photographers, taking in a beautiful summer’s evening in Dunrossness.
