Accused of stealing drugs from Lerwick pharmacy

A man has been remanded in custody after being accused of breaking into A L Laing Pharmacy on Commercial Street.

Martin Andrew Macdonald, 43, of Robertson Lane, Lerwick, is charged with breaking into the premises on Saturday and stealing a quantity of Lorazepam tablets – a benzodiazepine drug, often used to treat anxiety.

He is also accused of resisting, obstructing and hindering two police officers, and struggling violently with them.

The offences are said to have happened two days after Macdonald was granted bail at Lerwick Sheriff Court.

He denied the charges when he appeared from custody before Honorary Sheriff Willie Shannon.

Trial was fixed for 10th November, while an intermediate diet via video link is due to take place on 8th November.
