Man rescued from harbour by port authority employee

A man who fell from Lerwick Harbour last night was flown to hospital suffering from hypothermia.

The coastguard confirmed that they received a call just before midnight alerting them to the situation.

Coastguard and lifeboat teams were alerted but were soon after stood down following reports that the man had been recovered from the sea.

The coastguard also confirmed that the on-duty harbourmaster Ryan Leith – known for wild swimming – who retrieved the man from the water.

Police were also called to the scene and assisted in rescuing the man.
