Uyeasound Up-Helly-A’ hailed a great success again

The Uyeasound Up-Helly-A’ took place yesterday with Christopher Gray leading the festival as Guizer Jarl.

Despite a bitterly cold wind and frosty conditions underfoot, Shetland’s second oldest fire festival was hailed as a great success.

The Jarl’s Squad were elegantly kitted out in wine-coloured tunics, grey cloaks and winged helmets. They carried authentic looking axes and shelds depicting the four points of the compass.

The squad paid the usual daytime visits to Baltasound Junior High School and the Nordalea Care Centre.

After a short break the galley was burned in fine style and the celebrations continued at the hall.
