Young man had cannabis worth £1,000

A man caught with £1,000 of cannabis in his possession escaped prison when he was given 140 hours of unpaid work at Lerwick Sheriff Court last Wednesday.

Jordan Palmer, of Gremmasgaet, Lerwick admitted possessing 110 grammes of the class B drug on 15th April as well as a trace amount of cocaine.

Sentencing Palmer, 22, Sheriff Philip Mann said that custody was not the only alternative and imposed the community payback order instead with 12 months supervision instead.

Palmer also admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner on 21st February by shouting and swearing at a female taxi driver, refusing to pay her and seizing the car’s wheel, causing it to swerve on the Esplanade in Lerwick.

For this he was given 60 hours of unpaid work and a year’s supervision.
