A DRINKING session on Sunday led to a night in the cells for a Lerwick man, who appeared from custody at the town’s sheriff court on Monday.

Magnus James Stove, 36, of Sandveien, pleaded guilty to shouting, swearing and struggling violently with police at Lerwick Police Station. He had been arrested and taken there after police were called to an address in Sandveien following an alleged assault.

Procurator fiscal Duncan MacKenzie said Stove had to be restrained at the police station when he refused to enter a cell.

Defence solicitor Tommy Allan said his client had not realised he was going to be detained overnight and lost his temper.

Taking into account the early plea of guilty, Sheriff James Hendry limited the fine to £399, saying he was sure the incident was an “embarrassment” to Stove.
