Future still in footballers’ hands

It is still all to play for as the Shetland footballers drew 0-0 in their opening match against the Isle of Wight last night.

Blues manager Niall Bristow said their future remained in their own hands after an all square end to the opening encounter.

“We were very much wanting to win and Shetland doesn’t have a great history of trying to rack up goals because the goal difference,” he said.

Bristow said the 2011 games winners settled more quickly, without creating any great chances.

Shetland came into the game a bit more and the first half evened out, though the blues created little too.

“[There were] a couple of opportunities in the final third and the final passes went astray, but a very even first half.”

The second half saw Shetland grow in prominence and Bristow said his team were the better side with an outstanding chance to seal it at the death.

“On the whole far more positives than negatives.”

Today Shetland play Norwegian side Hitra. A few Shetland players are a little sore and Shetland may freshen up the team for the game later this afternoon.
