The legendary five-times world darts champion Eric Bristow has been added to the line-up for this summer’s SRT/Simpson & Ward Masters.

Some of the world’s best darts players will be coming to Shetland for a prestigious competition this summer.

Darts legend Phil Taylor returned to Shetland and reclaimed his title as champion by defeating a world class field at Clickimin on Saturday in the SRT/Simpson & Ward Masters.

Clickimin is to stage another feast of darts when the top players from the PDC (Professional Darts Corporation) descend on the Lerwick venue in September.

World darts champion Phil “The Power” Taylor lit up the Clickimin Centre on Saturday, beating Dennis “The Menace” Priestley in the final of the Clickimin 25th Anniversary Tournament in front of 1,400 fans.

The cream of world darts players are coming to Shetland later this year to compete in the 25th anniversary tournament at Clickimin.

Darts fans in Burra were thrilled on Sunday and Monday with the appearance of five times world champion Raymond van Barneveld.

Shetland Darts Association has announced the fixtures for the Sum­mer Cups, which all have an 8pm start.

Darts enthusiasts had a treat at the weekend with a visit from 14 times world champion Phil “The Power” Taylor.

Taylor and up-and-coming Pro­fessional Darts Corporation player Gary Anderson visited the isles to take part in a specially-organised tournament, where they took on two groups of local players over the weekend.

Both nights, at the Burra Public Hall, were a sell-out. Friday kicked off with Anderson, who took on eight locals. Following a short interval, Taylor played a further eight. There were no local winners except George Smith, who beat Anderson fair and square.

Orkney have defeated Shetland in this year’s darts inter-county match, played in the Kirkwall British Legion last Friday.

The home side opted to play the singles first, and due to being the better at finishing found themselves with a 7-1 lead with Paul Tait being the sole winner. Further wins for Roger Irvine, Barry Couper and Jim Wood in the singles cut the deficit to 8-4.

Shetland carried on with a mini revival in the doubles, but Orkney’s finishing proved better and they ran out winners by 11-7, lifting the cup for the first time since 2003.
