Shetland fencer Stephen Rocks has been selected as part of the Great Britain sabre team to fence in Moscow from 15th to 18th March, an Olympic qualifying event.

Shetland fencers Sophie Drosso and Stephen Rocks were victorious for Scotland B at the weekend at Inverclyde, beating Ireland, Combined Services and Scottish Fencing’s President’s Select.

Two Shetland fencers struck gold at the Glasgow Open competition at the weekend.

Shetland fencer Christopher Rocks has been selected for the Commonwealth Fencing Open Championships.

He will be part of the Scotland squad for the event, sanctioned by but independent of the Commonwealth Games. Although the games will be held in Delhi, India, the fencing championships will take place separately in Melbourne, Australia.

Three Shetland fencers were selected for the Scotland B team at the weekend, which defeated Northern Ireland, the RAF and a side selected by the president of Scottish Fencing.

Shetland fencing triumphed at Scotland’s most prestigious competition at the weekend with local fencer Christopher Rocks becoming Scottish épée champion and his twin brother Stephen coming fifth in the men’s sabre.

Shetland Fencing Club travelled to Inverness at the weekend and pro­duced probably the best results in the several years of competing in this senior Scottish Open com­petition.

Last weekend the Shetland Fencing Club travelled away to the Doric Open at the Beach Leisure Centre in Aberdeen.
