Shetland fencing triumphed at Scotland’s most prestigious competition at the weekend with local fencer Christopher Rocks becoming Scottish épée champion and his twin brother Stephen coming fifth in the men’s sabre.

A group of six fencers from Shetland travelled to Glasgow last weekend to join five other Shetland Fencing Club members to compete in the Glasgow Senior Open competition.
This is one of the major Scottish competitions on the calendar, drawing a large entry from all over the UK and beyond.

Shetland Fencing Club held its annual prizegiving on Saturday to round off the club championships which had been held over the last few weeks.

Shetland Fencing Club had an impressive nine competitors in the biggest senior Scottish fencing event of the calendar at Meadowbank Stadium, Edinburgh.
For junior fencers this level of competition is very tough, as they will compete against experienced seniors from the UK and abroad.
Living in Shetland it is not practical to “do the rounds”…
