Saturday at Dale saw the highest turnout of the year for the very popular Hay & Co Buildbase Open when 92 golfers took part on a splendid sunny day.

Golfer Jordan Leask continued his excellent form this season by lifting the scratch competition trophy at Saturday’s 36-hole Shetland Open, while fellow youngster Blair Mackay won the handicap competition.

A good turnout of 44 played in the Junior Senior Open this year which also included a nine-hole com-petition.

The first of a run of open competitions at Dale was held on Saturday when Stuart Tomlinson took top spot in the Shetland Freezer Foods Open.

The Golden Coach once again sponsored the Whalsay Ladies Doubles Open golf competition, held on Saturday in perfect con­ditions.

Shetland Golf Club’s Alan Harcus won the county championship for the second time running when he shot rounds of 76 and 75 to win by two strokes from Whalsay’s Stuart Anderson with 74 and 79.

Playing in near perfect conditions, with little wind and plenty of sunshine, 30 women enjoyed their day of golf in the Senior Open sponsored by the Golden Coach.

Last weekend saw the first seniors event on the golfing calendar at Dale when George Leask won his first over 50s competition while another veteran, Tom Simpson, enjoyed success in the club championship for the first time.

Mission day voted a great success

The 13th Mission Cup, the annual golf tournament for all sectors of the fishing industry, was staged at the Whalsay Golf Club on Saturday.
