Competition for senior hockey’s Grutness Trophy is hotting up, with Spurs leading the way on nine points but Delting and Whalsay, who have both played a game less, are on seven and six points respectively.

Whalsay won senior hockey’s Shearer Shield on Monday, finishing off the campaign with a 2-0 win over Delting and maintaining a 100 per cent record in the competition.

Whalsay had a good week in senior hockey, defeating Scalloway 4-1 in the Grutness Trophy league and Burra 5-1 in the race for the Shearer Shield, which they lead by five points.

Spurs maintained their 100 per cent record in senior hockey’s Grutness Trophy competition with two-goal victories over Scalloway and Whalsay. In the other matches Burra defeated Zetland and drew with Delting.

Whalsay defeated isles rivals Burra on penalty flicks after a 2-2 draw in the final to claim senior hockey’s Lizzie Poleson Trophy. The matches in the Shearer Shield saw victories for Delting and Spurs over Burra and Scalloway respectively.

Spurs stretched their lead at the top of hockey’s Rosebowl league to 10 points with a comfortable win over Scalloway while Burra lost out to Whalsay and Delting were unable to field a team against Burra and forfeited the points.

Spurs maintained their unbeaten record in senior hockey’s Association Rosebowl league with a single-goal win over Juniors, while Burra, Delting and Juniors picked up victories.
