Loungers retained their 100 per cent record in division one of the badminton leagues with a win over Wastside, while in the second division there were victories for Burra and Ness.

The Anderson High School netball team is through to the quarter-finals of the Scottish Schools Cup after defeating Balerno High School from Edinburgh 68-34 on Tuesday.

Whalsay comfortably defeated Supernova to move away from the bottom of the netball league first division while AHS narrowly outpointed second-placed Kinetics. Challengers got the points after Unst failed to field a team while leaders Loungers saw off Team Rowley.

Last week’s first division netball matches saw good wins for Kinetics, Loungers and Team Rowley while improving Unst drew with Wastside.

Unst came out looking forward to their first netball game back after the Christmas break and the addition of the top second division teams to their league.

Three young Shetland netballers have started the new year with a bang with the exciting news that they have been selected for the under-17 Scottish netball squad.

Kinetics received the Bristow Heli­copters Trophy as winners of netball’s Division One but lost out to Whalsay. In the same league, AHS lost to Loungers. In the third flight, Da Hooligans beat Ting­wall.

Da Hooligans were crowned champions of netball’s third division after beating Tingwall in the battle for top spot. In the first division Loungers beat AHS.

Wins for Loungers and Whalsay secured their mid-table positions in division one of the netball leagues, while there were also victories for leaders Challengers and second-placed Tingwall in the second and third divisions res­pectively.

Anderson High School had a comfortable win over St Margaret’s School for Girls from Aberdeen in the first round of the Scottish schools netball competition.

Already Shetland’s Young Fiddler of the Year, Anderson High School pupil Chapman Cheng added the Young Musician of the Year title to an impressive list of achievements on the penultimate night of the 2010 Schools Music Festival on Wednesday.
