Eight Shetland swimmers took part in the Elgin Spring Meet on Satur­day and Sunday in the five-lane 25-metre pool at Buckie School.

Shetland Swimming Association held its annual junior age group championships on Sunday, spon­sored by The A9 Partnership Ltd.

Three Shetland swimmers have been selected to repre-sent the North District of Scotland in the forthcoming county champion­ships in Sheffield on 18th October.

Teenage swimmer Felix Gifford has been chosen to represent Scotland at a major swimming event for schoolchildren in Wales.

Last weekend 11 young Shetland swimmers representing three Shet­land clubs competed in two competitions on the mainland and achieved some outstanding results.

It was a special day in the South Mainland on Friday with its first-ever Up-Helly-A’ festival proving a roaring success.
