The severe westerly gales have led to some spectacular waves crashing in to parts of Shetland. At Stenness the spray rose above the cliffs while in Fair Isle walls surrounding the South Lighthouse were damaged by the heavy seas. Forecasters predict the winds will ease overnight, although there will be some heavy rain and sleet showers.
