The year-long CLAN 1,2,3 appeal to raise money in Shetland for a new cancer centre in Aberdeen is expected to have raised an extraordinary £650,000 by the time it draws to a close early next week.

The local CLAN 1,2,3 appeal soared through the £600,000 mark yesterday after Shetland Charitable Trust pledged £250,000 with more to come later if required. The donation takes the fund-raising tally to £615,000 as the Shetland appeal enters its final month.

NHS Shetland is to give £25,000 to the CLAN 1,2,3 appeal, it was agreed at a board meeting on Tuesday.
