Bail for man who assaulted woman

A MAN who assaulted a woman so badly she was taken to hospital for treatment appeared from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Monday.

Christopher Laurenson, 31, whose address was given in court as a house in the town’s Braefield, admitted assaulting a woman on Saturday by repeatedly punching her, striking her on the head and pushing her to floor – all to her injury.

The court heard Laurenson became aggressive and started hitting the woman across the face.

Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said the victim suffered “substantial swelling and bruising”, and was taken to hospital with a suspected broken nose.

Calling for reports, Sheriff Graeme Napier deferred sentence until 30th July.

Describing the incident as “a very nasty assault”, he granted Laurenson bail, with a condition that he did not approach his victim.
