Man found dead in his home

A JOINER was found dead in his home at the weekend.

The body of Robert Kay, 50, of Ackrigarth in Lerwick, was discovered on Sunday afternoon. Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the sudden death.

Mr Kay was recently convicted of beating his partner and narrowly escaped a lengthy jail term when he appeared before Sheriff Graeme Napier on 27th June. He had been due to stand in the dock again this week.

He had previously been given a community service order of 120 hours and told to carry out a year’s probation, but had found himself back in court after breaching the conditions of his order by telephoning his victim.

Sentence had been deferred until Wednesday for confirmation he had commenced with his probation. A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.
