Tait exhibits her textile work

BY Paul Bloomer

ST NINIAN’S Isle Cafe in Bigton is holding a small exhibition of printed textile pieces by Jennifer Tait.

Jennifer has just completed the first year of the contemporary textiles degree course at Shetland College and the works were produced as part of the sculpture module in response to the brief “intimate immensity”.

All of the pieces are inspired by the ritual of the fine art of making a perfect cup of tea that she says is “immense in its ingrained cultural significance and intimate in the things we share with friends and family over a cup of tea”.

Jennifer has taken carefully composed photographs of all aspects of tea making then using cellulose thinners has printed these images on to cotton. The pictures are all soft focus as if seen through a haze of memory rather like a fading snapshot of a comforting past.

The cafe is open every day from 11am to 6pm and the works will be on display till the end of the season.
