Swimmers celebrate North District training call-up

NINE swimmers from the Clickimin pool training squad have achieved the required time to qualify for this winter’s North District regional training programme.

Megan Nicolson and Sarah Keay, both 12, and Megan Petursdottir and Sarah Williamson, both 11, will travel to Aberdeen for three sessions. Their level one squad will include skill development, speed and endurance, land work, injury prevention, mobility, co-ordination and basic mental preparation.

Craig Nicolson, 13, Nicole Petursdottir, 14, Andrea Strachan and Amy Harper, both 16, and Calumn Macgregor, 15, will be in the level two squads which will include skill and training refinement, starts and turns, racing skills and strategies and land training.

The District Regional Programme (DRP) is an initiative run by Scottish swimming, underpinning the national performance programme of senior, youth and youth development squads.

DRP is delivered locally in each district over three intensive days in September, October and December and aims to be progressive, motivating, challenging and enjoyable. The programme is designed to develop the swimming education of swimmers aged between 11 and 16.
