LadyBoys edge out JBT team

LADYBOY Express defeated JBT II in the only volleyball match played last Friday. The other match due to be played was awarded as a win to Harry’s Hotspurs as DITT Globetrotters could not field a team.

LadyBoy Express 3, JBT II 1
(25-11, 23-25, 25-16, 25,15)

Strong setting from Mike Bradley and excellent spiking from Davie Leslie allowed LadyBoy Express to pull ahead quickly in the first set, but JBT were not far behind.

The LadyBoys took advantage of their team talk following the first timeout, which led to a run of straight scoring until JBT called time again. At 17-6 JBT started to look up but LadyBoys maintained their rhythm and took the first set 25-11.

The second set started with end-to-end play, each team scoring the alternate point with long rallies in between. Accurate serving from Kenneth Shearer gave LadyBoys the lead, until it came to 20-20 when LadyBoys called time out. JBT got their drive after this timeout and went on to win the set 25-23.

According to spectator Karl Sinclair set three began with “the best rally of the game”. A good run of serves from JBT’s Vicki Henderson gave the reds their edge, along with great pick-ups from Ben Laurenson. However, thanks to Anne Wood’s ever reliable setting and Davie Leslie’s consistently strong spikes, LadyBoys won the third set 25-16.

In the fourth set Ladyboys took advantage of JBT failing to anticipate their shots. Accurate hitting by Ronnie Calderwood for JBT and Sarah Grogan for LadyBoys made exciting play. Once again LadyBoys confidently stormed ahead and won the final set 25-15.

MVPs for LadyBoy Express were Sarah Grogan and Davie Leslie and for JBT II Ronnie Calderwood and Vicki Henderson.
