Failing demand closes quarry

BRINDISTER quarry is set to shut down.

The building materials and aggregates suppliers Hanson Aggregates will close the site by the end of the year.

According to communications manager David Weeks, the company has been suffering losses.

He said: “Like many companies at the moment we have been struggling with falling demand for the product. We’ve had to review all operations accross the country and as a result have had to take a decision to close the site at Brindister.”

However Mr Weeks said it is likely only one job will be affected as many of the employees had already decided to leave. One employee will be staying on until the company closes down and will be paid redundancy.
