Youngsters compete in festive squash events

TWO junior squash competitions were held over the festive period.

In the under-13 Christmas handicap competition Stuart Copland came out the winner, scoring 202 points in total. Stuart and Josie Wishart had the closest games of the tournament with only one point difference between them in their match with the final score 44-43.

Josie finished second with a total of 193 points while Craig Smith scored highly in every game he played, giving him 175 points.

The rest of the field were grouped within 16 points and all put in good performances to score over 100 each: Cameron Garrick 156; Andrew Bain 154; Ryan Kirk 149; Joseph Morgan 140.

Calvin Leask won the under-19 handicap competition. However, the rest of the field were very close to him, all being within 15 points.

The closest match was between James Spanswick and Frank Garrick with James winning 46-44.

Playing to a high standard in every match is important in a handicap competition and both Leanne Jamieson and Ellis Robb did this to finish second and third respectively.

Callum MacFarline was next after just losing out to Ellis after a long three-setter. Only a point behind was Frank, another player who fought a number of long three-setters.

Next were James and then Lauren Hogg, both players finding it more challenging to play to their handicaps.
