Creative dance artist appointed

Glasgow woman Lisa Sinclair has been appointed as creative dance artist for the isles until March.

The position, organised jointly by Shetland Arts and the SIC creative links and active schools service, will deliver a creative dance programme in both the Anderson High School and the wider community.

Ms Sinclair will lead schools workshops, working with teachers and taking regular classes which others can sign up for.

She will also work with a group of five young dance artists (aged 17 to 25) with a particular focus on teaching tutoring skills and inspiring confidence and drive to continue with their own dance activity following the end of the residency.

That part of the residency has been made possible thanks to Big Lottery funding secured in partnership with the SIC sports and leisure division.

SIC creative links officer Noelle Henderson said: “We are delighted to have a dancer of Lisa’s calibre here and we look forward to seeing the exciting work which she will undertake. Hopefully this will lead to further developments in dance and build on what is currently happening in our community.”

If anyone would like to find out more about the three-month residency or become involved in some of the community dance workshops which will be taking place they can contact Jacqui Clark at Shetland Arts on (01595) 743843.
