Man stands accused of biting teenager’s ear

A man alleged to have bitten a boy’s ear appeared from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

Edward Rankin, 21, of The Manse, Gruting, Bridge of Walls, is charged with assault and biting the ear of a 15-year-old boy to his injury at Aith Hall on Sunday.

Rankin is also charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice by trying to escape from the police vehicle in which he had been placed by police officers who detained him. The case has been continued without plea until 12th March.

Rankin was released on bail by Sheriff George Henderson with the special condition that he does not approach or contact the boy or attempt to do so.
