More arrivals

A small increase in both vessels and tonnage in Lerwick’s harbour was announced at Lerwick Port Authority’s monthly meeting on Tuesday.

According to the harbourmaster’s report, there was an increase of 2.7 per cent in vessels and 0.6 per cent in tonnage on the figures for January 2008.

There were increases in fishing boats, general cargo, diving support and supply vessels and tugs.

Lerwick Port Authority chief executive Sandra Laurenson said that ferry refits will have an impact on this month’s figures, making them slightly lower than the figure for 2008.
