Gymnasts impress as they make national debut in Perth

Shetland Gymnastics Club entered its first ever national event on Saturday when four young members travelled to Perth to compete in a beginners/intermediate competition at the Bells Sports Centre.

Cory Johnson and Brittany Coan were competing in the over-12 age group along with another 84 gymnasts. Brittany did exceptionally well to finishing fifth, while Cory did well to gain 30th position. Brittany also managed to gain a high enough score to move up to the next level of competition.

Sonja Scollay and Kirsty Wishart were competing in the 8-9 years age group against another 30 gymnasts from all over Scotland. This competition was much commented on as it included competitors from both ends of the country, Dumfries and Shetland as well as many other clubs. Both girls did extremely well here with Kirsty finishing 10th and Sonja 15th.

All four girls had very good scores from the national judging panels.

This trip was made possible with a grant from the SIC community development deptaertment.
