Amanda pots her way to pool glory

The “Watt & Duncan 08” Winter Pool League was won this week by Amanda Cutt. In a competition that was said to be “anybody’s game” right until the final matches, Amanda came out tops to win the annual shield and £50 prize cheque.

Victory in this competition puts Amanda through to represent Shetland in the International Blackball Association games to be held in either Manchester or Rosyth in October this year.

This annual competition pits island-sourced teams against each other, with teams coming from diverse island groups such as Gibraltar, Tenerife and the Isle of Man along with contingents from Orkney and Shetland. The four-day competition is a relatively new addition to the competition circuit in its fourth year with a new island group being added each year as the competition grows.

However, with that competition fairly distant in the future from now Amanda’s focus was firmly on her part in the World Masters Pool Competition which begins on Friday.

Amanda was presented with her trophy and cheque for winning the winter league by Shetland county women’s champion Inga Tait at the Lerwick Legion on Monday night with Ryan Duncan of the sponsors in attendance.

For any women interested in entering in the Hughson Brothers summer league, names must be in by April 10th; please phone Ryan on 07795 954689.
