Mixed fish prices

In keeping with recent trends there was a fairly quiet start to the week at the fishing markets. Tuesday was the exception to this, with 1,000 boxes landed at Lerwick.

Prices were very good for haddock and whiting, reasonable for monkfish, megrim and saithe and poor for cod.

The majority of the boats landing continue to be from Shetland with fewer from north-east Scotland coming in. An LHD representative said this was likely due to boats having to fish further afield and for prawns, for example, to make up their catch.

A busy market is expected towards the end of the week.
