Pair charged with assault after incident in town centre

Two men have been charged with assault following an alleged fight in Lerwick during the early hours of Sunday morning which left a 25-year-old man from Edinburgh in need of hospital treatment.

The incident occured outside Da Noost in the town’s Commercial Street at around 1.15am. The ambulance was called and paramedics treated the man at the scene before taking him to the Gilbert Bain Hospital.

A section of the street was sealed off to allow CID officers to carry out a thorough scene of crime examination.

As a result of inquiries and assistance from members of the public, two Lerwick men were charged with assault. A report is being sent to the procurator fiscal.

The injured man was kept in hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
