Hjaltland stays apart

Hjaltland Housing Association will continue to operate the “one stop shop” for housing, it was decided this week.

Councillors were given the option of taking the service back into local authority control when they met at the Town Hall on Tuesday.

However they agreed the service, which handles grant enquiries and inspects houses to determine eligible works, would be better off staying as it is for now, despite potential savings of over £50,000 a year if the council took it over.

Members of the infrastructure committee agreed real savings might not be made. They will revisit the issue in two years time.
