Heather and Liz are open winners

Playing in near perfect conditions, with little wind and plenty of sunshine, 30 women enjoyed their day of golf in the Senior Open sponsored by the Golden Coach.

The winner of the handicap competition was Liz Simpson with a net 72, closely followed by May Gair (73) in second place. Third was Mildred Blance and fourth was Audrey Thompson.

The winner of the scratch competition for the second year running was Heather Hogg with a gross 81. One stroke behind was Loraine Anderson, third was Rosie Sandison with Margie Pearson in fourth place.

Two other competitors winning prizes were Penelope Smith for nearest the pin at the short par three-second hole and Janice Johnston getting closest to the 10th pin in two shots.

A spokeswoman said the ladies’ section of Shetland Golf Club would like to thank the Golden Coach for the continued support in th competition, which was much appreciated by everyone.
