A Shetland woman died suddenly while out riding her motorbike in Caithness on Friday.

Michelle Smith (née Mackay), 40, was a housewife living in Ellon, Aberdeenshire. She was a daughter of Donnie and Wilma Mackay of South Nesting.

The incident happened on Friday evening when her Suzuki was found to have veered off the A99 near Hill O’ Many Stanes, south of Wick.

In a statement issued through the police her family said: “Michelle was a loving wife, mother and daughter and was the heart of a close-knit family and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.”

A post mortem is being carried out to try to establish the cause of death.
