Post office service to return to Hillswick at end of August

A post office service is to return to Hillswick at the end of August, operating out of the hall, although it may eventually be housed in the new community shop which is being planned by the local development group.

Post Office Ltd said on Wednesday that following a formal period of public consultation and a review of the feedback received a “Hosted Outreach” service would be introduced on Thursday 27th August.

It will operate in the hall for four-and-a-half hours a week, on Mondays from 2pm-4pm and Thursdays from 3pm-5.30pm. The Post Office said this was based on “actual customer usage of the previous branch”. The range of services will be the same.

In a statement, the Post Office said that while the immediate priority was to restore the service to Hillswick as quickly as possible, it would consider relocating to the new community shop in the future.

Kenny Lamont, field change adviser for the Post Office, said: “I am pleased to announce that we are introducing this Hosted Outreach service to help safeguard Post Office services in Hillswick in the longer term.

“Post Office services are extremely important for the community, and we are confident that our customers will benefit, in the longer term, by this change.”
