Reigning league champions Delting cruised to a 3-0 victory in the final of the Fraser Cup against Celtic on Saturday afternoon, with two goals in the early stages effectively killing the game off.
A Merv Jamieson header from a corner and a Leighton Flaws effort after he had surged forward from midfield set the Brae men on their way in the opening 10 minutes, with youngster Stuart Lavender ending any lingering doubt with a third goal in the second half to give them a deserved win at Fraser Park.
Delting overpowered Celtic in midfield and, despite a couple of half chances in the second period, the men in hoops never really looked like getting back into the game after their early setbacks.
It is a first trophy of the season for John Jamieson’s men, who lost 3-2 to Whitedale in the Manson Cup last month. They are still out ahead in the chase for the league title, but Whalsay closed the gap to just two points with five games remaining thanks to a 4-0 win over Ness United at Cunningsburgh on Friday evening. Elsewhere, Spurs crushed Unst 11-1 at Gilbertson Park and Whitedale returned from Mid Yell with the three points after a 6-1 victory.
