Allied Taxis gains permission to build brand new hub

Shetland’s largest taxi company has this week been granted planning permission to build new premises.

Allied Taxis, which has been run for a decade from a base near the Co-op roundabout, will eventually move to the Blackhill Industrial Estate.

The site, behind Jim’s Garage (formerly Sutherland’s), was acquired some time ago but required additional drainage to be installed. Now that has been completed building work can start, although owner Mark Anderson has no date for this at present.

The purpose-built new premises will be four times the size of the old ones and will comprise three inside and three outside cleaning bays, a radio room, tea room, toilets and office. Mr Anderson said it will lead to greater efficiency for his company, which now has 21 cars.

Allied Taxis was formed at the time of the Tall Ships visit to Lerwick in 1999. It joined forces with AJs Taxis of Scalloway in 2003.
