Comfortable volleyball victory by JBT

Harry’s Hotspurs were no match for JBT as the latter romped to a straight sets win in volleyball’s mixed league action.

Harry’s Hotspurs 0, JBT 3
(14-25, 9-25, 12-25)

The game started evenly with good rallies and excellent play from both teams. Consistent serving from Jillian Copland put the Hotspurs into an early lead. However, after some fine hitting by JBT’s Ben Laurenson the hotspurs found themselves level at 8-8.

JBT got more and more into the game and it showed through some excellent play from Naomi Johnston and Kevin Jones. At 14-10 Hotspurs were forced into making their first time-out of the set. This did not stop JBT and after some precise dipping serves from Mark Loynd and Monika Los, creating errors in the Hotspurs ranks, the set ended 25-14 for JBT.

Substitutions were made for the second set, Ryan Jamieson replacing Kevin Jones and Vikki Henderson coming on for Naomi Johnston, but that did not change the pattern of the game. Some great play by JBT saw Ryan Jamieson make some powerful hits past the despairing Hotspurs blockers. More great serves by Mark Loynd and Jamieson made the score 10-2.

The points were only going one way at this stage of the game after more mix-ups from Hotspurs and JBT making the most of every opportunity. Kyle Duncan shone for the Hotspurs, with some good net play and low digs helping his side try and make a fightback, but it wasn’t to be. With more great play by JBT, in particular Ryan Jamieson and Vikki Henderson, the set ended 25-9 in their favour.

The third and final set was a very scrappy affair, dominated by great serving by each team more than anything. Sharon Powell of JBT got her team off the mark with many of her serves creating problems for the opposition. Some superb dig returns from Hotspurs’ Kevin Moar gave his side a few points on the board to level at 3-3.

Naomi Johnston soon got JBT back on track again with some very accurate serves which were causing all sorts of problems for Hotspurs, giving them a 9-3 lead. More great hitting by Vikki Henderson and swerving serves by Mark Loynd extended JBT’s lead even further to make it 13-4.

Hotspurs Jillian Copland and Kyle Duncan gave Hotspurs some comfort taking some points back to make it 16-10. The game then ended on a high with some good rallies and great play by both teams, young Ryan Moar coming on for his sister Louise Moar to grab some league experience.

It was JBT who ended the game victors with some precise setting by Ben Laurenson. With his team failing to miss a chance they went on to win 25-12.
