Gospel selection now on CD

Gordon and Janet Sing Gospel. CD collection of songs recorded by the late Gordon “Hank” Smith and Janet Henderson.

These songs have previously only been available on cassette and as Janet Henderson herself admits, the recording was “fairly roughly done”.

Nevertheless, it is relatively easy as a listener to look beyond the less than perfect sound quality and appreciate this splendid selection of songs for their outstanding musical merit.

Gordon “Hank” Smith played the guitar with great precision and his accompanying style was perfectly suited to vocal harmony arrangements. He always provided a very pleasing mix of strumming and confident fill-ins, which admirably knitted the whole performance together, yet was never intrusive.

Gordon and Janet’s voices blended considerably well with Janet providing a faultless melody line to which Gordon added a sweetly lilting tenor part again – as with the guitar – in just the right quantities.

Every song on this CD is treated with a warm sensitivity and tenderness that sets the listener at ease to consider the challenges made but also to know the peace of God through Gordon and Janet’s ministry. Priced at £10 with 20 tracks altogether, the purchaser need not in any way feel short-changed par-ticularly given that it is essentially a charity release with all proceeds from sales of the album going to the Gordon “Hank” Smith Memorial Trust Fund. This trust fund is intended to provide struggling local gospel musicians with financial assistance – giving thanks to God for His gift of music by supporting Shetland’s Christian Music Min-istry.

Gordon and Janet Sing Gospel is available from Da Planticrub at the Toll Clock Shopping Centre in Lerwick and the Garden Centre in Tingwall, as well as the Christian Bookshop, High Level Music and Clive’s Record Shop in Lerwick. It would be, or form part of, an ideal Christmas gift for any discerning music fan – gospel orientated or otherwise.
