Body of Eastern European woman found in Lerwick Harbour

Investigations are under way after a woman’s body was pulled out of the water near Lerwick Harbour at the weekend.

Nastenka Vasileva, 61, a Lerwick resident, died after falling into the water some time on Friday night. She was reported missing at 4am on Saturday and her body was recovered by a lifeboat crew over three hours later.

Ms Vasileva was originally from Eastern Europe, but had been living in Lerwick for some time. Police say there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death, but are appealing for witnesses who may have seen her between 6.20pm on Friday and 7am on Saturday between Lerwick Harbour and the Knab to come forward.

Ms Vasileva was wearing blue jeans and a waist-length maroon coloured parka-type jacket. She was approximately 5′ 6″ in height and of slim build.

Police said a report would be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
